...than a devoted heart?

Marceline quickly scoops up Simon, his body rigid and so cold it hurts to touch him. "Simon! Simon! After all these years of searching I finally found you, please don't give up now!" She pulls him close in attempts to give his body heat and life once more, fear churns and knots in the pit of her stomach. "Please, please snap out of it! I'm stronger now! I can save you! Please, let's go home..." Marceline's will to hold in the tears rapidly falters as her fallen friend continues in his comatose state. He's starting to frost over...damn it I'm too late... A low, deep cackle rings through the icy chamber which causes Marceline to snap out of her self-loathing. "Who's there?" she squeaks, her throat still tight from the emotional agony. The laughter slowly rises in pitch to a shriek filled with complete madness and centuries of icy hatred. "You little fool. He's nothing but a frozen, empty husk now. Completely useless without the memories I extracted," the voice coyly answers. Marceline bares her fangy teeth, furiously looking about the icy castle. Seeing noone, she releases a thunderous roar, "Show yourself!" The echoing laughter fades and out of the shadows stands a slender woman dressed in a golden, jeweled trumpet gown. Her beauty was unmatched crystal; her complexion as flawless as glass. She carried herself with a fearless composure. However, everything about her was void of any warmth; though crisp and clear her voice dripped with the groaning of countless bitter winters. Marceline's sorrow sours into hatred and rage, "Give his memories back! Leave us alone! He doesn't belong to you anymore and I won't let you have him!" The queen slowly smiles and cocks her head to the side, her pupils shrunken with insanity, "But he's already given his heart to me. Your struggles were in vain and have ceased being amusing to me. Now...you're no longer needed."

This is my entry for :iconsimonpetrikovlove:'s "Storybook" contest. I remember the story that chilled me the most when I was a child was that of "The Snow Queen" and so I wanted to do a crossover with it and Adventure Time. In short, the story is about two childhood friends who have a disasterous encounter with the feared and powerful Snow Queen. The boy enrages the queen and she breaks her enchanted mirror into a million pieces and sends them throughout the world in her icy winds. The story goes that if a fleck falls into your eye it corrupts your vision to see everything negatively and if it should find your heart it would turn it to ice. A fleck falls into the boy's eye and he quickly becomes corrupt in the care of the Snow Queen. Gerda (the girl) goes on an quest to rescue her beloved friend. If you want more information on this old Russian tale click :snowflake: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Snow… :snowflake: The title is inspired by a quote from the Christian Anderson 1957 film rendition when the reigndeer talks to the old Finnish lady/witch and pleads with her to give Gerda the strength to fight the Ice Queen. That quote was the woman's reply.

For those of you who didn't get it, the lady/Snow Queen is my personification of the crown Simon/Ice King falls prey to. I have more picture ideas in the work but only had enough time to submit this one for the contest. And just fyi for those who know the story, Simon is Kay and Marceline is Gerda.

This took forever and I was afraid I wouldn't make it in time. D: I did a lot of experimenting before I could come up with this. Not sure I really like it.. kinda looks crappy D: You can't really make out what are in the memory bubbles.. so I'm sorry for the quality I don't have a scanner but will put this in better resolution when I find a scanner I can use. <<
